Konecta and Saving the Amazon: Partnering for environmental and community impact

Konecta's collaboration with Saving the Amazon, a non-profit organization focused on protecting the Amazon rainforest through community-led reforestation, reflects our commitment to sustainability, climate action, environmental protection and inclusive development. This partnership supports indigenous leadership, strengthens local governance, and contributes to long-term ecological restoration.

A mission rooted in empowerment

Founded over 12 years ago, Saving the Amazon was created in response to the urgent threat of deforestation in the Amazon, a region vital to global climate stability and biodiversity. The organization centers its work around empowering indigenous communities acknowledging their deep-rooted connection to the land and their ancestral knowledge of forest ecosystems.

By supporting reforestation efforts, environmental education, and sustainable development models, Saving the Amazon strengthens community resilience and promotes long-term environmental impact.

How Konecta supports the mission

Since 2023, Konecta’s involvement goes beyond funding, it’s about building a strategic alliance aligned with our sustainability roadmap. Our contributions help:

  • Funding the planting of native tree species
  • Supporting community-led environmental projects
  • Amplifying awareness of Amazon preservation
  • Strengthening the social and economic development of local communities

To date, Konecta has supported the planting of 2,010 trees with eight indigenous communities in Colombia’s Vaupés and Guainía regions. These efforts contribute directly to carbon capture and ecosystem restoration, while also fostering inclusion and equity.

Community-led conservation in action

Saving the Amazon’s approach combines environmental protection with community development and empowerment. Their strategy includes:

  • Native species reforestation led by indigenous groups
  • Sustainable land management and biodiversity monitoring
  • Environmental education and training for local leaders
  • Economic alternatives like community ecotourism
  • Defense of territorial rights and self-governance

This integration of environmental and social efforts ensures that conservation has lasting effects, both for the land and for the people who inhabit it.

Shared challenges, collaborative solutions

Protecting the Amazon rainforest is a complex endeavor that faces multiple interconnected challenges. From illegal deforestation and limited resources to weak governance, climate threats, and the sheer size of the territory, the obstacles are as vast as the forest itself. Add to that the incredible cultural diversity of the Indigenous communities that call the Amazon home, and it becomes clear that conservation cannot succeed without a thoughtful, community-led approach.

In this context, strategic alliances become essential and that’s where Konecta’s partnership with Saving the Amazon plays a vital role. By combining financial support, project coordination, and technological tools, Konecta helps expand the scope and effectiveness of reforestation efforts. The collaboration strengthens territorial monitoring, encourages the creation of sustainable economic alternatives, and boosts public awareness around the importance of Amazon conservation.

Together, we’re building systemic solutions that empower communities and safeguard biodiversity.

Highlights and measurable impact

So far, Konecta and Saving the Amazon have achieved:

Territories Impacted and Tree Planting Results:

Vaupés and Guainía: 18 indigenous involved, 2010 trees planted.
Cali (Valle del Cauca): 3 rural farmers involved, 100 trees planted.
Tenjo (Cundinamarca): 4 rural farmers involved, 100 trees planted.
Venecia (Antioquia): 4 rural farmers involved, 100 trees planted

Volunteer Engagement:

  • Konecta volunteers involved: 50+
  • Planned expansion for 2025: +1,000 trees across new ecosystems

Environmental Outcomes:

  • 2023: 783 trees planted = estimated 2,384 tons of captured CO₂
  • 2024: 1,501 trees planted

A real-life story of restoration

One project that demonstrates the impact of this partnership took place in Tayazú, Timbo Río, and Puerto Corroncho, where illegal logging had degraded the forest. Through participatory reforestation, the community planted thousands of native trees, restored governance capacity, and initiated a community-based ecotourism model.

This project has not only regenerated the local ecosystem but also created income opportunities and empowered local leadership to prevent future deforestation.

Looking ahead: Goals for 2025 and beyond

Konecta and Saving the Amazon aim to continue scaling this impact through:

  • Expanding the corporate forest under Konecta’s name
  • Launching new reforestation initiatives in vulnerable regions
  • Supporting mangrove restoration to enhance coastal biodiversity
  • Planting 1,000+ additional trees in 2025

These goals align with our broader environmental strategy, which prioritizes carbon reduction, social inclusion, and community-led climate solutions.

Building global awareness

Saving the Amazon also emphasizes the importance of creating global awareness about the Amazon’s critical role in planetary health. From climate regulation to biodiversity preservation, the Amazon affects us all.

As a purpose-driven organization, Konecta believes in meaningful, measurable action and in partnerships that empower people and protect the planet.

“The Amazon is not just a forest—it’s the beating heart of the planet. Protecting it means protecting our collective future.”
